I read about Brian Bent and the church he pastors – Hot Rod Church for Sinners – in this month’s Mens File magazine (that’s him on the cover). He’s also lead singer for The Pioneers, a gospel rockabilly band that leads the church in worship. They meet in a pizzeria in Mission Viejo, CA at 9:30am every Sunday.

There was a time (when I wasn’t as mature in my faith) when I would have thought something like a rockabilly church to be gimmicky and watered down. Although I personally attend a more traditional Sunday service, I definitely see the need to meet people wherever they’re at. Brian and his wife Rivka had a vision to reach out to a community that shared their lifestyle and interests; to me, it’s no different than working with a specific neighborhood that has distinct ethnic, cultural and musical leanings. Watching the short news clip below, it’s clear that lives are being changed through their church. I am looking forward to visiting them the next time I am in LA.
