You can’t beat these…
I’ve spent the better part of this Christmas weekend watching TV at home. Daytime television yields plenty of dreadful low-budget commercials, but none of them were as bad as the ones I used to see in Chicago. The top offenders were Empire Carpet and my favorite – Eagle Insurance:
Victory.
Say what you want about Diddy now, but he definitely made some hits and his first solo album “No Way Out” got tons of play in my discman. That album made Ma$e a rich man, broke the Lox and Black Rob, and had guest appearancesfrom Notorious BIG, Jay-Z, Twista, Faith Evans, 112 and Lil Kim…. a veritable who’s who at the time. I remember riding in Christian Oh’s Black Integra GS-R with the album on blast, and both of us knowing every word to every song.
Anyways, I was having dinner with friends last night and en route to the restaurant, “Going the Distance” by Bill Conti from the Rocky soundtrack came on Eric’s ipod and it reminded me of Puff Daddy’s “Victory” which sampled the song heavily. It also had a great video which borrowed its concept from the movie “The Running Man.” I had to find it this morning and as always, Youtube comes through in the clutch…
It’s cold out.
“Tisdale’s biggest rebound comes after loss of leg to cancer.”
I grew up watching Wayman Tisdale play ball on TV… he was a devastating combo with Mitch Richmond at Sacramento. After he retired I found out that he began a career as a jazz musician, and occasionally I’d read about his faith as well. I just saw this article and short video on his recent amputation of his leg from cancer, and the openness he continues to carry with his faith and how it brings him joy really encouraged me. Check the video out here.
Puppy fever.
It’s probably no secret that I am on the hunt for a puppy. Lily thinks we’re (read: I’m) too irresponsible to have another living creature under our care. To me, our office could really use a companion but thus far I’ve acquiesced. Meghan (my intern) put me onto this live webcam feed of a litter of super cute puppies and while it’s not quite the same, it’s kept us mildly amused this morning. We’re organizing for a sample sale but I leave the cam on my laptop screen so we can check up on them while we’re taking a break. It’s pretty nuts, last time I checked there were 17k + concurrent viewers.
