Self Edge LA Grand Opening.
3sixteen Photoshoot.
Over the weekend I got to work with Vincent Tsang, a Montreal-based photographer, on our 3sixteen Fall 2010 lookbook. I’ve known Vincent for some time now through his work at a retailer that used to stock 3sixteen. We met for the first time six months ago when he and Maura visited Self Edge NY. A short while thereafter, he contacted me to see if we wanted to work together on a lookbook shoot; we took advantage of his east coast travel schedule and got it done this past Saturday.
This photoshoot was particularly fun to work on due to all of our new contributors. Our models Jeb and David as well as our stylist Sarah Kim (Antenna) are new to our lookbooks but have been close friends for some time. Our intern Kyle and Vincent’s assistant, Maura, were invaluable with keeping us on track and organized. There’s always a little bit of apprehension when you’re starting on a new shoot with people that you’ve never worked with before: Will the shots come out right? Will we achieve the same measure of success that we’ve experienced in the past? Will we get the feel that we’re going for? I’m happy to say that the team came through in a big way – the lookbook came out great. We should be debuting it very soon, but in the meantime you can check out some behind the scenes shots on Vincent’s website here.
Self Edge Los Angeles.
Self Edge LA is officially open for business. I’m looking forward to spending some time there next month – it’ll be fun to meet our customers and do some impromptu chainstitch hems on the fly.
West Meets East.
Kiya and I were approached by Freshness Magazine for a feature interview earlier this year; although several pieces have been written on Self Edge recently, we were thankful for the opportunity and decided to give it a go. The end result has just gone live – I think that Jesse Carr covered new ground and put together a very comprehensive piece. I say comprehensive because the interview is 11 pages long… I will not be offended if you get bored after a few pages, because there are probably only 5 people in the world who want to take 30 minutes to read us ramble on about denim and stuff. With that said, if you are one of said 5 people, this is your lucky day. Click here to read the feature and see some photos of Kiya, me, and the shop.
Chainstitch.
Just chainstitched my first pair of 3sixteen+ jeans today for a customer. They’re certainly not the heaviest jeans we have in the shop, but the denim has a nice crunchy heft to it.
